Christian Dior's delicious designs have remained at the forefront with cutting edge couture. Better known around the world as the man who gave us the "New Look". Born and raised in Normany, France, Dior moved with his parents to Paris when he was ten. After studying political science, he served in the military. His design career did not begin until 1935, when he returned to Paris and began selling sketches. The Designer Robert Piguet hired him in 1938, During the World War II, Dior served in the south of France, then returned again to Paris in 1941 and worked for Lucien Lelong at a much larger design house. In 1946, backed by textile manufacturer Marcel Boussac, he opened his own house and started his own collection that featured 90 outfits.

It was not soon after the release of his first collection the Christian Dior had to sit back and think long and hard on what the tastes of women would want. He thought that women were sick and tired of their styles following that of a man?s with big broad shoulders really covered up the look that was going on during this time. So Dior thought it was long over do and decided to kick things up a notch and design wardrobes that would show softness, rounded shapes and beauty that would make a woman feel like a woman again. However, this new look did not go over well as some liked it and some hated it. At one point things go so bad that some of the governments throughout the world forbid the line, calling the new collection outrageous and wasteful. This did not hold Christian Dior back; as a matter of fact it motivated him to release a new line of clothing every six months.

Then in 1957 news stunned the world, their newly found designer has suddenly passed away of a heart attack. The fashion world s a whole was stunned in disbelief when the news came out, and the company of Christian Dior, which employed over 1200 employees, was devastated. Everyone realizing that continuing on with the clothing line, is what Dior would have wanted and came back ever so strong.

In 1960, Mark Bohan took over the company, within that same year Mark released his first collection under the Christian Dior name, and that collection was called the "Slim Line", which was a very big success. Such a success that the Christian Dior Company continued to expand, opening up stores in cities such as New York, Paris, Las Vegas, Hollywood, and other major cities. Christian Dior was now becoming well known as selling high-end luxurious goods. They not only expanded their area in which they sold their goods, but also their line of goods as they were manufacturing.

It was at this same time that the Christian Dior Company started dabbling in more then just clothes, they wanted shoes, earrings, scarves pens, hats, perfume, and many other accessories to their product line. However, the shoe line took off as quickly the clothing lines did. The Dior Company went on and beyond designing shoes that would make a statement, and noticed every time you stepped in a room.
